A little Halloween adventure, away from the screen

Bring Miss Carrot and Benny Bunny’s Halloween Circle Time into a cosy shared-play moment. This free book combines familiar pumpkins, a friendly spider and a little bat with colouring, counting, sorting and simple puzzles. Pick one page your child enjoys rather than working through the whole book at once.

The website’s learning collection is for ages 1–4. This particular printable is labelled ages 2–4 and includes adult-assisted cutting activities. Choose the tasks that fit your child’s interests and stage.

What’s inside the 12 pages?

  • A cover your child can personalise at home.
  • Pumpkin and friendly spider colouring pages.
  • Finding circles and tracing a triangle.
  • Counting five pumpkins and sorting orange and yellow pumpkin cards.
  • A repeating spider-and-pumpkin pattern.
  • Moving a bat above, behind and next to a pumpkin.
  • Colour, cut and movement cards: make a round shape, flap, wiggle and reach up tall.
  • A two-piece pumpkin puzzle and a four-piece bat puzzle.

Skills to explore through play

Communication & language: name colours, shapes and characters, talk about positions and take turns listening and responding. Leave time for a gesture, sound or word.

Early mathematics: point to one pumpkin at a time while counting, find matching colours, compare shapes and notice what comes next in a pattern.

Physical development: colouring and tracing offer opportunities to practise hand movements; the action cards invite big, gentle movements. A grown-up handles the cutting.

Problem-solving: try turning and matching the large puzzle pieces. Offer a little help when needed and celebrate trying rather than getting every answer right.

Creativity & confidence: choose colours freely, make a familiar character your own and enjoy a shared achievement. These activities offer playful practice, not a test or a promise of developmental outcomes.

The experience for your little learner

Start with the matching video, then let your child choose a favourite picture from the book. Recognising a pumpkin or copying a bat flap connects the screen adventure with something they can touch, colour and move. Follow their pace, repeat favourite pages and stop when they need a change.

Try simple prompts: “Which colour shall we choose?”, “Where is the bat?” or “Can we count these together?” Let pointing and movement count as joining in, too.

Printing and getting ready

Download the PDF and print on A4, single-sided, at 100% / Actual size. You can print selected pages. The downloadable book keeps its original black-and-white pages for colouring; the colourful cover above is a website preview.

Use age-appropriate crayons and supervise all activities. Grown-ups help with all cutting. Keep scissors and small cut-out pieces out of reach when not in use and leave a clear space for movement.

A little garden game, too

Try Carrot Catch with Miss Carrot and Benny Bunny for free. Play together, choose a direction and spot the difference between carrots, pumpkins and spiders. Return to a colouring or movement page whenever your child is ready for off-screen play.
